Overview
This calculator estimates basal metabolic rate (BMR) and daily maintenance energy needs for adults. It is an estimate rather than a measurement of an individual’s metabolism and is not a prescription for calorie intake, weight loss, or medical nutrition therapy.
Formula
BMR uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation; estimated maintenance energy = BMR × selected activity factor.
Example
The default values provide a worked estimate that updates instantly when inputs change.
Methodology
BMR is estimated with the Mifflin–St Jeor predictive equation using the entered age, sex, height, and weight. Estimated maintenance calories are then calculated from BMR and the selected activity factor. Predictive equations and activity multipliers cannot capture every individual difference, so the result should be treated as an approximation. Calcify does not use medical records or personal health datasets.
